Yes Mac I See That Too, As We Took That Into Account As We Designed Our Systems To Work With Youre Planet. Though No Doubt The Radiational Affects Would Be Devastating, Including Fall Out. It Is Also So, That We Have Looked At Bringing Humans To Our Planet Afterward As To Save The Species From Going Extinct, Incase Of Such An Event Which We All Hope Never Happens.

In the carbon creek ep, the great grandmother of T'Pol makes a remark about humans using what little technology they have to destroy each other. Mesrtal's response to this was to say that vulcans were also like this a long time ago and that he believed that humanity was on the verge of great scientific and technological breakthroughs.

According to the trek time line we nearly did destroy ourselves. Almost a century later in WW3 in the mid 21st century a decade before first contact with the Vulcans.

Yes, and the Vulcans did not step it to prevent it. It seems that they had a version of the Prime Directive even then. I wonder if they learned not to interfere through experience (that is, they did interfere once with disastrous consequences) or if they're just naturally not the type to stick their noses in where they don't think they belong. Has anyone heard anything about Vulcan history to confirm this?

I remember several times on Enterprise that the Vulcans had some form of the prime directive/non-interference directive. The vulcans would not make first contact with primitive/pre-warp cultures. I think it was due to their logical philosophy. I also think this non-interference directive was further developed and refined when the Federation was in its early days as mistakes were made with disastrous results, paving the way for more strictness in this area into its present form in the 24th century.

Hmm I Agree, This Is Interesting, The Non Interference Treaty Sound Like A Smart One, As Interfering Can Have Terrible Results.

Its the bad results from interference is the reason for the prime directive. It has been mentioned quite a bit through many of the trek episodes/series. I haven't always agreed with some of the decisions in voling the prime directive in trek stories. I wonder how much Mestral kept matters like this in mind when he was on earth from the late 50's on?

Most likely he tried not to.

Mestral not interfering and just studying humanity would help him maintain his true identity. Otherwise he could have ended up in some secret laboratory being studied and dissected.

Possible, very possible. So yeah, I guess he would have to stay under the radar.

He would have to for the rest of his life, that is if he wasn't picked up by a Vulcan ship later or had his secret kept safe by a couple of trustworthy humans.

One of the things I liked about "Enterprise" is that several of the stories do in fact show them sticking their noses in and causing problems, and this is exactly why the Prime Directive is a good idea.

I remember on Enterprise, Archer making remarks about having some kind of directive about interactions/interference with other cultures so not to cause problems. They also were advised by the Vulcans on this issue.
