I wished that they would have used all the ship classes and even some new and improved ones for the space battle scenes! I only remember seeing 3 classes of Klingon ships and only the large Romulan war bird for the Romulans.

most class ships are not meant for combat just remember that. The federation was not bread for war, only for exploration. They were outfitted with weapons for defense, so you cant expect 12 different types of ships, they would be useless in a fight. we saw quite a few ships, ranging from federation, klingon, dominion, cardassian, even bajoran couple times. All in all, great battles, USS Defiant my favorite for life

Thanks for the info about the federation ships, that some were not meant for battle. This explains this to a point. The nebula class as I understand it was a powerful ship that I would have liked to have seen in combat with the dominion. In the ep. "The wounded"' the captain of a nebula class ship was more powerful than the cardie ships and destroyed several of them.

I thought the Galaxy class was principally for exploration. The reason it was so large is that instead of 5-year missions, it's designed for extended missions. That's why families are alllowed on board, because it was expected to keep the same crew for 10 to 15 years at a time. That was my take, at least.

It was my understanding as well Atoz about the size of, and the families on board the galaxy class ship for long term missions of exploration. It was also a heavily armed ship as well, which is why it was used in the dominion wars. All they had to do was drop off the families at safe locations and pick up more personnel for combat duty.

it was also quite funny in the one episode "Valiant" when we saw that super dominion destroyer as I would call it, a measly defiant class ship destroyed it. seems pretty convenient that one ship could destroy an arsenal like that one.

even though he had some expertise, it was nothing compared to the experience of a lt. commander or higher. Even they would have troubles, but better maneuvers.

Agreed about the last few posts. It did seem like a mismatch and things were done poorly. The Valiant should have headed back to federation space instead of foolishly trying to engage such a large dominion ship. Those cadets should have gone back to finish their training
