I was wondering, the Defiant had a cloaking device did the Valiant?

The Defiant had a cloaking device? I didn't know that. But I'm not a very big fan of DS9. I think I watched only the first two seasons. Later I saw a few episodes around the Dominion War, but not enough to really follow things that closely.

I liked the fact that the Defiant's cloaking device was very effective in combat in the Dominion war!!

That's odd, because the Federation has had cloaking technology ever since Captain James Kirk brought back the Klingon Bird of Prey (which he renamed the "HMS Bounty"). And we use cloaking technology in "duck blinds" to observe cultures in prime directive situations. Starfleet is simply not allowed to use cloaking devices on warships because in the Treaty of Algeron we agreed not to. At least, that's what I thought.

It was probably a temporary pact during the Dominion War. If the Valiant is the same class as the Defiant, I would assume it also had a cloak. Wouldn't you, Andrew?

Yeah, the Defiant had a cloaking device, on loan from the romulans, and only to be used in the Gamma Quadrant. Every other Defiant class ship did not have a cloaking device, not even the San Paulo, which on dispensation from Star Fleet was renamed Defiant. Though it has been assumed that O'Brian later got hold of one and installed it.
And yes, Star Fleet have had access to Cloaking Technology for plenty of years, and officially they have not been allowed to use it, but I am certain it has been used on more than one account.

The Valiant did not have a cloaking device. The Federation knew how to make cloaking devices, but because of the treaty with the Romulans, they were not supposed to.

Section 31, doesnt act like the rest of the Federation, and tend to do there own thing, and they probably need to sneak around a lot, so i would assume they have cloaking devices

About section 31 and having cloaking devices, I agree with you Apollo. Section 31 in thier sneaking around preserve the Federation at all costs. In DS9 it was a question of does the ends justify the means? To Dr Bashir and Chief O'Brian it was no. To section 31 agents it was yes! I would say personally sometimes depending on what ends are at stake and what are the means I would have to go through/do to acheive those ends!!
