The Marquis raiders were actually older surplus Federation attack fighters! They are nice looking little ships about the size of a runabout.

Yes I like them. Very manevurable as well! Good fighters. Small ships can cause the most damage sometimes!

I will have to go look up the specs on the Federation attack fighter. They can overwhelm much larger ships in large numbers! The Marquis did this to a Cardassain battle cruiser on an episode of DS9.
Back to the topic.......
The original Defiant was officially registered as an escort ship, but unofficially was a warship!
The Valiant was originally crewed by Star Fleet officers and elite cadets called "Red Squad", (I'm not totally sure they were called red squad since it's been so long since I have seen this episode.) Only most of the elite cadets survived that battle with the Cardassian battle cruiser.

And in the first episode of Voyager "The Caretaker" it shows the marquis rader menuvering very well through the bad lands where as the cardassion cruiser gets knocked around my the plasma storms. I'm not sure if its destroyed though.

At the time of the attack on the Valiant it was all regular officers on duty, some cadets doing their regular routines. Unfortunately the battle caused heavy damage and a high number of lives lost. Remarkably, the red squad cadets survived the attack and the most high ranking cadet was given command when their captain died and there were no more reg. officers left, so he started to promote cadets as he needed them to run the ship properly and complete their mission.

The Captain of the Valiant was badly injured and he directed the repairs to the ship in this condition. It came down to who could get main power online first....the Valiant or the cardassain Battle cruiser. The Valiant did and destroyed the Cardie ship. The Dying Captain Promoted The lead cadet and I think his name was Waters to captain. They were stuck behind enemy lines.

cadet Captain Waters was taking speed/uppers/amphetamines to improved his proformance, but this also contributed to his downfall!

Drugs were not allowed, but since the Valiant was cut off from the Federation and Waters was the Captain, he got away with it! His senior officers were concerned about him and his addiction, but did not do much to put a stop to it, if they had the Valiant would have not been destroyed due to a captains poor judgment, no doubt adversely affected by the drug abuse!!!

Jake Sisko was just doing his job as a reporter doing a story and that is what brought him into conflict with the Valiants red squad crew.
I agree! Nog was cool!! He helped them get the Valiant to go faster than warp 3.2 , by using his experience aboard the Defiant. Cadet Captain Waters promoted him to Lt Commander and made him the chief engineer.

Yes I agree that Quark's family was interesting. Rom may not have been socially or economically smart, but he was a genius at engineering!! I am not going to want to try any of thier foods though!! Gross!!!!

Eww! And what does the grand nagus have? Beetle snuff! And his funny servant mayahrdu. What species is Mayhardu any way? I loved the episode when the grand nagus turns good by the wormhole alians! And he rewrites the ROA!
