Yep thats what I get for going by memory alone. I thought Too Short a Season wasnt much of a story too. I can kind of see why you might invest in an untried youth potion for you and your wife but gosh what would possess you to take both doses?
Where No Man Has Gone was kidn of cool. One of those epis that doesnt make much sens on a rational level but which looks cool, know what I mean?

Picard saw his Maman, Yar and Worf saw pets they had lost years earlier. I wasnt sure it this place was supposed to represetn Heaven where all dead people go or whether it was just the memories that came to life somehow. you know it doesn't make much sense that they could actually have traveled to someplace that the laws of physics dont apply so what I expect happened is they crossed somekind of subspace domain barrier and ended up in another dimension or something.

Yes, it wasn't explicitly spelled out that way, but I think that's what happened too.
So which is next? "Hide and Q", wasn't it?

One thing I remember from this is the first time Q appears he looks really strange and nonhuman. Then he changes and appears as a human in a marines uniform or something.

Yes, he was like a snake with three heads or something. Really weird. I suppose that was an attempt to represent what he really looks like.
Then later, he whisks the bridge crew away to some planet he invented just to play a strange game. And offering to make Riker a member of the Q continuum? Really this was not one of my favorite episodes.

"Lonely Among us". the Enterprise in next to a mysterious space cloud and a little blue spark invades the ship moving from one person to another. This was nice and all but I didn't really derive any feeling of danger from it know what I mean?

I tend to agree. The poor thing was just lost. (But thinking about it gave me the idea for my story "Remember...")
There was also the ambassadors from the Selay and and Anticans that the Enterprise was carrying to some kind of conference. I sort of liked that part better, even though it still wasn't worth writing home about.

That subplot reminded me more of Buck Rogers actually. They weresupposed to be aliens with spacetravel technology and they were running around the ship hunting each other with NETS for goodness sakes!

Well, true. But I imagine even advanced races have little quirks in their behavior that would strike another species as primitive. You have a good point that they didn't look particularly impressive. The Selay weren't bad, but the Anticans reminded me of that mutated rat on the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" cartoon! Yuck!

I must admit it took me a while to get into STNG....as mentioned above I was comparing it too much to Kirk and friends....probably got a good handle on it when i started buying the box sets

I got into it due to later seasons first because I was too young to really get it first time around. The seventh season was when I was six years old so I only saw it in repeats later. I probably started in with the repeats with the fourth or fifth season.

Yes, I've said before the first season did not really catch my interest all that much. It was only the second season, when Pulaski arrived that I started liking it. I'm not saying that SHE personally was the reason, it's just that the stories seemed more interesting in the second season.

The programme really came into its own by then I suppose. I've heard a good portion of the first season ripped of TOS in some way.

That's true. A few of the first season episodes were partly based on TOS episodes ("The Naked Now" for example).
